[The author also has no goddamn clue about any of that, but Varian does. Varian still feels largely useless for all of this. A spare part that can't help at all. Not really. But at least he understands the inner workings of this machine. He can't do anything to make them better- even if his fingers twitch to want to do just that. But he knows what they mean.

But now all they can do is wait. And hope. Neither are skills Varian is good at. ]
