Jun is...complicated.
The simplest way to describe Jun is that he has two personas that he puts on depending on the situation: the high school student and White Shroud. You meet the student side of him first. He's introduced as one of Kou's normal friends at school, and in this persona he does seem very normal to the casual eye. He's down-to-earth, easy going, cheerful, and a bit nerdy without veering into obsessive. He doesn't have any of the strong personality traits that his friends exhibit: he's not loud like Ryouta, a workaholic like Kou, or extremely sweet like Shiori. Truth be told, he's so normal that he's almost forgettable the moment he leaves a room. He's that person in your friend circle at school that you hung out with a lot, only to realize much later that you never learned anything of substance about him.
Not long after you meet him as White Shroud, though you're unaware that it's Jun at the time. As White Shroud, he couldn't be anymore different than his student persona. He's cold and aloof, keeping his interactions with people brief if not outright avoiding them altogether. Attempting to converse with him is difficult at best, as he brushes people off with uncaring words. Gravely serious, he only cares about accomplishing his mission and nothing else. If something falls outside his mission perimeters, he's quick to dismiss it. Essentially, he's as close as a human can get to an emotionless weapon.
The truth is, neither of these personas are exactly the "real Jun", nor are either complete lies either. You see, Jun was raised to be a child soldier against a threat hidden from most of the world. The faction who raised him, Kronos Orden, were pretty extreme about it compared to the others. Seal Knights are expected to be wholly devoted to the cause, in body and soul. Not only was something done to his body to give him superhuman abilities, but he was denied any chances to form a sense of self or emotional attachments - severely impairing his emotional development.
However, things started to change for him when he was sent to Morimiya for a long term mission. Posing as a high schooler during the day, Jun was exposed to something he'd never experienced before: normalcy. Day after day, he was exposed to new experiences that most kids his age would take for granted. Slowly over time, these experiences caused Jun to start to grow and change himself. The act he put on as his student persona became less of an act as a real personality began to form, and the friends he made became truly precious to him. When he fully realized he was changing, he decided to lean into it- to see what he could learn about himself. He'd observe behaviors that others would do, and try to mimic them himself to see if it felt right to him. Some would get discarded, while others would he'd keep.
The real Jun is a mix of his personas. He's serious about his work, but quick to joke around and smile when he's not working. While he takes being a Seal Knight seriously, overall doesn't seem to take himself that seriously. He's confident in his abilities, but he doesn't have an ego about them. He's surprisingly fine with working with others so long as they understand the risks - even going so far as to vouch for allowing certain people to help when Kou refuses out of worry of their safety. As long as his missions get completed, he's not too fussed over HOW they're completed.
One very notable personality trait that Jun has developed is that he is excessively kind, often going beyond what any person would normally do without thinking about it. When the XRC all passed out and he didn't, it wasn't enough to simply get them out of harm's way. Instead he tracked down people each member cared about, brought them to spots where those people could find them, and even made sure they were laying in comfortable positions so they wouldn't wake up sore -- all before disappearing before anyone spotted him to avoid getting credit. He doesn't have a deep reason for going so overboard with it, he just feels an impulse and follows it, often not understanding why other people are surrpised he goes through so much hassle. He claims he's just following his friend Kou's example...but even Kou is often like "um" at how far he goes.
That said, he's still a bit of a troll. He enjoys creeping people out with scary stories he "read online", and will tease people (he will never let poor Ryouta forget the time he mistook him for a girl and asked him out. Never.) when the mood strikes him. He has no shame about dragging his friends into his nerdy hobbies either, whether it be forcing his friend to cosplay with him or sending them manga to read. And while he's grown to be a little more emotionally honest since his friends discovered his real identity, he's still full of secrets. He's skilled at lying and half-truths, often dancing around subjects.
Yet for all the growing Jun has done over the year and a half he's spent in Morimiya, he still has a lot of issues. Many emotions are still beyond his grasp, and the warped ideas he learned from the Orden still have a habit of popping up. Even though he's happy to work with the XRC, he still has to reminded from time to time that he has a team now. He struggles to connect with people due to a lifetime of avoiding emotional attachments, but the people he does manage to connect with he sees as incredibly precious.
- Raised by the Kronos Orden aka a really hardcore group of monster (aka Greed) fighters. Became a really powerful Seal Knight, but also really emotionally stunted.
- Got commissioned by the Japanese military to investigate anomalies happening in Morimiya. Went there and enrolled as a high school student while doing his Seal Knight work at night (fighting monsters, investigating stuff, standing on rooftops dramatically, etc)
- Continued his work, but accidentally made friends at school along the way.
- Then shit got complicated after his friend Kou stumbled into becoming a wielder (aka Greed fighter).
- Started tracking friend as a way to gain information for his mission. Even started pulling strings so Kou's group would go after targets useful to him.
- Except eventually this backfired when a target Jun set up turned out to be way more dangerous than he thought and put the entire school in danger. Kou's group managed but it was way too close for comfort for Jun who'd recently started to experience emotions like empathy and guilt.
- Jun attempted to continue his observations, but worry kept getting the better of him and he started getting directly involved more - jumping in to protect Kou, warning about danger, etc.
- Finally tracked down what he thought was the source of the anomalies, which was an extremely powerful Greed. Went on a mission with the military to lure it away from the city and destroy it. Also Kou's group got involved despite being a random group of teenagers cause this is a video game.
- Managed to defeat it, but while everyone else was celebrating Jun noticed something was off. Realized a little too late the real source was their friend Shiori, and the city got dragged into basically hell. Whoops.
- Got Kou's group to safety and went to protect the school from a Greed attack. Got impaled, which sucked but w/e he's got healing power so he'll live.
- Friends figured out who he was and basically told him they love him and stop being stupid. He was pretty much shocked pikachu face the whole time.
- Spent the rest of the day recovering while Kou's group handled things. Insisted on taking part in the final battle the following day, and had a heart-to-heart with Kou.
- Took part of the front lines of the battle while Kou's group went after the main cause. Came out victorious and Morimiya went back to normal, but that one friend ceased to exist and only a few people including Jun remembered she existed. Jun attempted to comfort a grieving Kou for the next two weeks but. boy. Emotions are so hard.
- Luckily a deity stepped in and gave Kou's group a trial that'd allow them to bring Shiori back. Jun wasn't allowed to take part because. um. reasons. But hey Shiori came back and everything was pretty good again.
- Jun spent the next 3 months living a mostly normal life for the first time ever. But then on the night of the autumn festival; Jun, Kou and their normie friend Ryouta got dragged into a fake version of Morimiya. The three of them had to fight through a lot of Eclipses as they tracked down the rest of their friends. Turns out the deal to bring back Shiori also brought back the Greed that caused the whole mess and now was pretty pissed. Working together, everyone managed to beat it and return to the real world.
As a Seal Knight, Jun is essentially a living weapon. Among the Underground in the world, Seal Knights are considered the most powerful of the anti-Eclipse combatants. Jun is no exception to the rule, as he's shown able to single-handedly take down Greed strong enough to normally require entire teams of regular wielders. The methods to how they obtained this level of power is shrouded in mystery, though they claim they were acknowledged by God. Whether this is true or not is impossible to say, but there's no denying their power.
His abilities are as followed:
- Holy Sword: He can summon a giant holy sword, called Alka Regus, at will. Notably he can summon this sword even outside Eclipses (unlike other Soul Devices), and he says only Sealed are capable of wielding it.
- Shroud: He can change into his Seal Knight uniform at will like a very prudish magical girl. The hood is enchanted to obscure his voice when it's up, though it'll malfunction if he's badly injured.
- Light magic attacks: In fights he uses powerful light-elemental magic to obliterate opponents. This includes a range of skills, but most notably is his ability to make HOLY RAIN OF DEATH.
- Light Bow: He can create a bow out of light big enough to use his sword as an arrow. Yeah.
- Teleportation: He can use magic to teleport himself and others. This only seems to work in the real world unless he takes a lot of time to create a portal. Also needless to say, it won't work for any areas that aren't allowed for plot reasons.
- Magic: He can cast various spells such as creating a fake sleeping version of himself, binding spells, tracking spells, a voice distortion spell - basically a bunch of random spells that would be handy for his line of work and/or plot conveinent.
- Fast Healing: He can heal quickly from injuries, even fatal ones. He can heal up from being impaled in about 2 days- 1 day if he has the chance to relax and completely focus on healing.
- Enhanced abilities: Strength, speed, endurance, dexterity. He can parkour like no other and also wield a giant sword with one hand despite being tiny.
- Enhanced Senses: he can pick up on presences of others, and whether or not they are hostile.
- Fighting Abilities: he spent his whole life being trained to fight monsters so yeah he can throw punches.
- Glowing Seal: He has a seal mark on his arm that when activated, will glow. It basically just shows proof of what he is, and he'll only really show it if you max out his social link.
