World Information:
Canon: Tokyo Xanadu is set in an alternate version of Earth in 2015. It's pretty similar to the Earth we know with only minor changes here and there. The big difference is Jun's Earth has the Eclipse, a spirit realm/hell dimension connected to their world and regularly causing problems - from dragging unsuspecting victims into the Eclipse where they're eaten by spirit monsters called Greed, to triggering disasters that wreck cities. And to complicate matters, only a small percent of the population have enough spirit power to perceive these incidents for what they really are.
To deal with the Eclipse, that small percentage of people have formed the Underground - which is the catch-all term for all the different groups around the world who deal with the Eclipse. However, since every group has its own view on what should be done with the Eclipse and it's barely regulated - the Underground tends to be pretty chaotic and tends to only unify during dire emergencies. There's no one who is considered the leader of the Underground, but the three groups with most influence are Nemesis (Professor Oak meets Team Rocket), Zodiac (Capitalism™), and the Kronos Orden (the church). You could write a whole essay on each of these groups- but since Jun's in Kronos Orden I'll focus on them.
Kronos Orden is an organization that's employed by the church. They are easily the most mysterious of the Big Three since they keep to themselves a lot. It's known the Orden wants to seal away the Eclipse, but since they keep lots of secret, many groups speculate they have some ulterior motive to why they want that (because "monsters are eating people" is not enough of a justification to stop something for the capitalists at Zodiac when there's money to be made). The Orden is most well known for their Seal Knights, who are powerful fighters that conceal their identity in a shroud. They're considered the strongest fighters in all the Underground, able to take down Greed singlehandly that'd normally require an entire team of people. Extremely selfless and devoted to their mission, they'll do just about anything to completed their mission. Because of this much of the Underground are wary of the Orden, but will go to them whenever shit has really hit the fan.
Upcycle (South Sister): An isolated island on an unknown world. South Sister was connected to not-quite sentient god-like being. This being would respond to the thoughts and feelings of people on the island, which would lead to occurrences that lead to beneficial (someone receiving a normal cat after wishing for one) to harmless-but-twisted (a gunshop that was full of completely useless guns because it was too hard to narrow down the concept of gun) to outright dangerous (the whole island flooding due to people missing their homes). On top of that, the island was at threat to a demonic blight called "The Silence" - that'd possessed people and caused them to go violent. For security reason, the island was isolated from the rest of its world by a mysterious organization that worked to resolve the issue there.
Stella Fortuna (Teyvat) An alternate version of the world in Genshin Impact, Teyvat. The world is mostly the same, but there was a god of Time named Forneus who sought to overthrow Celestia - which the player characters were helping him do so.
Personal History:
Canon: Summary here. TLDR, Jun was raised by an underground church organization called Kronos Orden to be a weapon against demons and spirit monsters that threaten Earth, causing him to be all kinds of screwed up. When he was 15 he was sent on a long term mission where he had to pose as a normal high schooler. During his time there, he got to experience a normal life with friends for the first time, and slowly grew as a person. JRPG-esque hijinks ensued.
Upcycled: Jun was brought to South Sister Isle to help with a corruption infection called "The Silence". He lived a double life while on the island: "Jun" and "Orden". As Jun, he acted like a mostly-normal teenage boy who ran an anime library. As Orden, he acted as an enigmatic member of the church who would patrol the island and help deal with any threats. He was there for several months, until the game closed.
Stella Fortuna: From South Sister Isle, Jun was brought to a version of Teyvat (aka Genshin Impact world) by the god of time (an OC) to assist in a plan to help take down Celestia, aka the main gods. Jun traveled through Mondstadt, Dragonspine, Liyue and Inazuma- assisting with local issues where he could while constantly having existential dread about his mission. In the end he was temporarily relieved of his duties, allowing to return to Earth for a few days before being dragged to Voidtrecker.
Personality:
Jun is...complicated.
The simplest way to describe Jun is that he has two personas that he puts on depending on the situation: the high school student and White Shroud. You meet the student side of him first. He's introduced as one of Kou's normal friends at school, and in this persona he does seem very normal to the casual eye. He's down-to-earth, easy going, cheerful, and a bit nerdy without veering into obsessive. He doesn't have any of the strong personality traits that his friends exhibit: he's not loud like Ryouta, a workaholic like Kou, or extremely sweet like Shiori. Truth be told, he's so normal that he's almost forgettable the moment he leaves a room. He's that person in your friend circle at school that you hung out with a lot, only to realize much later that you never learned anything of substance about him.
Not long after you meet him as White Shroud, though you're unaware that it's Jun at the time. As White Shroud, he couldn't be anymore different than his student persona. He's cold and aloof, keeping his interactions with people brief if not outright avoiding them altogether. Attempting to converse with him is difficult at best, as he brushes people off with uncaring words. Gravely serious, he only cares about accomplishing his mission and nothing else. If something falls outside his mission perimeters, he's quick to dismiss it. Essentially, he's as close as a human can get to an emotionless weapon.
The truth is, neither of these personas are exactly the "real Jun", nor are either complete lies either. You see, Jun was raised to be a child soldier against a threat hidden from most of the world. The faction who raised him, Kronos Orden, were pretty extreme about it compared to the others. Seal Knights are expected to be wholly devoted to the cause, in body and soul. Not only was something done to his body to give him superhuman abilities, but he was denied any chances to form a sense of self or emotional attachments - severely impairing his emotional development.
However, things started to change for him when he was sent to Morimiya for a long term mission. Posing as a high schooler during the day, Jun was exposed to something he'd never experienced before: normalcy. Day after day, he was exposed to new experiences that most kids his age would take for granted. Slowly over time, these experiences caused Jun to start to grow and change himself. The act he put on as his student persona became less of an act as a real personality began to form, and the friends he made became truly precious to him. When he fully realized he was changing, he decided to lean into it- to see what he could learn about himself. He'd observe behaviors that others would do, and try to mimic them himself to see if it felt right to him. Some would get discarded, while others would he'd keep.
The real Jun is a mix of his personas. He's serious about his work, but quick to joke around and smile when he's not working. While he takes being a Seal Knight seriously, overall doesn't seem to take himself that seriously. He's confident in his abilities, but he doesn't have an ego about them. He's surprisingly fine with working with others so long as they understand the risks - even going so far as to vouch for allowing certain people to help when Kou refuses out of worry of their safety. As long as his missions get completed, he's not too fussed over HOW they're completed.
One very notable personality trait that Jun has developed is that he is excessively kind, often going beyond what any person would normally do without thinking about it. When the XRC all passed out and he didn't, it wasn't enough to simply get them out of harm's way. Instead he tracked down people each member cared about, brought them to spots where those people could find them, and even made sure they were laying in comfortable positions so they wouldn't wake up sore -- all before disappearing before anyone spotted him to avoid getting credit. He doesn't have a deep reason for going so overboard with it, he just feels an impulse and follows it, often not understanding why other people are surprised he goes through so much hassle. He claims he's just following his friend Kou's example...but even Kou is often like "um" at how far he goes.
That said, he's still a bit of a troll. He enjoys creeping people out with scary stories he "read online", and will tease people (he will never let poor Ryouta forget the time he mistook him for a girl and asked him out. Never.) when the mood strikes him. He has no shame about dragging his friends into his nerdy hobbies either, whether it be forcing his friend to cosplay with him or sending them manga to read. And while he's grown to be a little more emotionally honest since his friends discovered his real identity, he's still full of secrets. He's skilled at lying and half-truths, often dancing around subjects.
Yet for all the growing Jun has done over the year and a half he's spent in Morimiya, he still has a lot of issues. Many emotions are still beyond his grasp, and the warped ideas he learned from the Orden still have a habit of popping up. Even though he's happy to work with the XRC, he still has to reminded from time to time that he has a team now. He struggles to connect with people due to a lifetime of avoiding emotional attachments, but the people he does manage to connect with he sees as incredibly precious.
CRAU developments:
Jun's grown a fair amount since leaving Earth! Thanks to interactions with CR, he's learned more about social skills and some emotions. He's become a little more honest and forthcoming with information he does know (though he still has plenty of secrets and topics he'll try to dodge). And little by little, he's begun unpacking all the trauma he went through in his time with the Orden- acknowledging that hey, maybe it WAS pretty terrible of them to do that.
On the professional end he's become a more seasoned knight, having undergone several missions now. He's more used to working in teams and adapting to new situations. He's still pretty introverted, but he's gotten a little better about it.
That said, he spent a year in Stella Fortuna with everyone knowing his true identity and constantly having to present himself as a Holy Knight first with all its short comings. Which can be a lot to deal with when you're a teenager being tasked with way more than you can reasonably chew. Because of that, he'll probably swing back to being lowkey about his identity as a knight for awhile. Meaning he's going to pretend he's a mostly normal kid unless shit really hits the fan. Have fun with that!
Key themes:
Self-discovery, The Importance of Attachments, Duty vs. Humanity
Main Motivation: Jun's original motivation was to complete his missions as a Seal Knight, but it's altered some to prioritize looking after those precious to him.
Skills:
As a Seal Knight, Jun is essentially a living weapon. Among the Underground in the world, Seal Knights are considered the most powerful of the anti-Eclipse combatants. Jun is no exception to the rule, as he's shown able to single-handedly take down Greed strong enough to normally require entire teams of regular wielders. The methods to how they obtained this level of power is shrouded in mystery, though they claim they were acknowledged by God. Until canon says otherwise, I'm going to take this claim at face value.
His canon abilities are as followed:
✟ Holy Sword: He can summon a giant holy sword at will. Notably he can summon this sword even outside Eclipses (unlike other Soul Devices), and he says only Sealed are capable of wielding it.
✟ Shroud: He can change into his Seal Knight uniform at will like a very prudish magical girl. The hood is enchanted to obscure his voice when it's up, though it'll malfunction if he's badly injured. The fabric is enchanted with light magic to further protect its wearer and probably repair itself considering it was still wearable after he was impaled.
✟ Light Magic: In fights he uses powerful light-elemental magic to obliterate opponents. In Tokyo Xanadu, light magic is strong against fire, water, earth and air elemental stuff, because yeah it is stupidly overpowered.
✟ Light Arrows/Bow: He can create shoot up to six normal sized light-arrows at once to fire at opponents, or one giant-sized one depending on his needs. He can also create a bow out of light big enough to use his sword as an arrow.
✟ Teleportation: He can use magic to teleport himself and others. He can teleport up to one person at a time normally, otherwise he can create a portal but that takes more time to create. It won't work for any areas that aren't allowed for plot reasons and he avoids using it in places he's never been since teleporting himself into a wall would suck.
✟ Magic: He can cast various spells such as creating a fake sleeping version of himself, binding spells, tracking spells, a voice distortion spell - basically a bunch of random spells that would be handy for his line of work and/or plot convenient.
✟ Regeneration: He can heal quickly from injuries, even fatal ones. He can heal up from being impaled in about 2 days- 1 day if he has the chance to relax and completely focus on healing. Smaller injuries will take a few hours, depending on the severity.
✟ Enhanced abilities: Strength, speed, endurance, dexterity. He can parkour like no other and also wield a giant sword with one hand despite being tiny.
✟ Enhanced Senses: He can pick up on presences of others, and whether or not they are hostile. He can also sense different types of magical/spiritual energies well enough to distinguish between them.
✟ Fighting Abilities: He spent his whole life being trained to fight monsters so yeah he can throw punches. He is most proficient in swords and bows, but he can probably make do with what he has.
✟ Seal: He has a seal mark on his arm that'll glow when activated. Mostly this is used as a form of ID to other Orden members, but should he get injured to the point of life threatening- it'll activate and blow up everything near him with very powerful light magic as a last-ditch effort to protect him.
It should also be noted that while in Stella Fortuna, he obtained a Geo Vision that he was allowed to keep after he left. The Vision allows him to use geo (aka earth-based) magic, but to a lesser degree than an actual person from Teyvat. Still. Magic rock throwing!
Item: Jun has magic hammerspace, and within it is his holy sword, a Geo Vision, a bow, and seal knight uniform. His non-hammerspace item is a smartphone. It can do everything a normal smartphone can do.
